Hi Everyone, Welcome to the July Song Lab! This song is from the album Everything is Everywhere released on Available Light Records. With 21 albums trailing behind me, I believe this is one of my very favorite recording projects. It was a benefit album for The Interfaith Hunger Initiative and a collaborative recording with masters of the Indian Classical Sarod, Amjad Ali Khan, Ayaan Ali Khan & Amaan Ali Khan. It was such an honor to get to write for this project and get to record and perform with the Khan family. Honestly it was like getting to record with the Yo Yo Ma of India! What an honor and thrill.
The project was envisioned to explore how music can transcend culture, spiritual and musical tradition —how at the center of a song we recognize and connect as human beings.
In these days when we are being told daily that there are deep divisions and no bridges, it seemed like a good time to present this song (and this album) as a counter narrative to that idea.
