Oh, Carrie. You always speak to my heart. But dogs??? Now you are speaking to my soul. I truly believe dogs are the finest creatures on earth and our greatest honor is to be their companions. My Luna is the light of my life - pure joy and love and fun. Comfort and company. How lucky we are to love a dog and see the world through their wise and sweet, silly ways.
Yes dogs! Unconditional lovers. My Golden, "Theena", short for Athena, is 4yr old and is a "Welcome Wagger" therapy dog. Her "job" is to be petted. University & high school students,
hospital staff and patients, juvenile detentions ctrs., care centers, etc., etc. What a gift these 4-leggeds are to all of us. Cammie B.
My loveing boy Toby had ideopathic epilepsy. My then wife's older cocker spaniel would wrap herself around him when he seized. In response, since cockers often go deaf as they age, Toby would stop her from walking into the street when a car went by. Love is love
It was great to contribute a photo of my dog Denver to the My Dog video. During Covid, we traded afternoon walks for car rides, and now, at 3:30 on the dot, he comes to me and just stares. He knows the time, whether it’s Spring or Winter or daylight savings time. He knows. “In some minutes” is my dog-talk for “not now” but somehow the stare becomes louder, followed by a a right foot pawing the air. I’m trying more these days to put down my phone and do things now, and not wait for “in some minutes.”
Thank you so much for so kindly recommending my new poetry collection, 'How to Be a Contemplative,' for which you wrote such a lovely Foreword, and also my new non-fiction book, 'The Italian Soul: How to Savor the Full Joys of Life." I am on the East Coast this week to give a series of presentations on the Italy book but have a day off today and will be visiting Untermyer Gardens outside NYC and will try to experience the gardens as you suggest with doggy enthusiasm. I'll write again after my visit to share my haiku. I love the practice of writing a daily haiku as a way of being attuned to our surroundings. I also live the practice of exchanging haiku with friends. One of my previous books, 'The Art of Pausing ' was based on exchanging a haiku a day along with brief reflections with a Trappist monk from the Abbey of Gethsemani, Thomas Merton's Abbey. One of the best and most fun experiences of my life! Thank you, Carrie for always reminding us of what matters in life.❤️
It was such a delight and honor to be invited to do the foreword. It really is such a beautiful work. I've loved your writing for so many years, every book has been a treasure my friend. I looooved The Art of Pausing. It is a book I often return to...and love that it was a poetic conversation with Brother Paul at the Abbey of Gethsemani. I hope everyone checks out these two new offering and explores your earlier works as well. Congrats my friend.
Furry legged leaps
eyes, wet nose, tail, pond sparkles
wholehearted smiles drenched again

(Carrie…you bring joyful awareness and hope each Sunday! Thank you!)
Hummingbird came by
Dragonfly too, bringing joy
Winds blow, gift of life

I loooove you call Theena the "welcome wagger". I'm sure she is a beautiful gift where ever she goes.
Dog..God backward
God-given, reminds us
God loves us.
She follows Ella and I......Grammar police.. "Ella and me."
oops, thanks betsy. I do my own editing and sometimes I miss something. A good editor is a beautiful thing in this world.
Not a haiku, but...
MUDPUDDLING
paws flying
she digs, digs deeper
flinging sand, sloppy mud
I long for her abandon
delighting in dirt
and disorder
she just doesn’t care
dear dog
with your wet, brown nose
waiting to mark my coat
release me from planning
from rhythm invite
me to romp in the muck
that feeds pond lily
and butterfly
sooooo lovely! thank you Amrita!
Birds chitter at me
I am picking blueberries
That they think are theirs
White morning glories
blooming on the green fence now
open to first light.

Sooo beautiful. They are all love aren't they...all love.
Peaceful Sound Water
Damp cool fresh awakening
Senses are alive
Carrie , once again thank you for the light you share and all the others you highlight in your posts.

“He stares louder”- oh that is so true for my pup too!!! So well said!
I loved that too Amy....He stares louder, perfectly described my friend.

Two haiku
one from the experiencing nature prompt
Quiet early dark
rain drops linger from the night
owls hoot, wind rises
and another, thinking about an animal (I don't have any cats just now, but, memories)
Cat upon the bricks
enjoying midsummer warmth
as evening begins
Lovely Kerry! These are so perfect.
Woofing at the World is one of my favorites of your poems
awww. thanks my friend. thank means a lot from a writer I so admire.
