The Speed of Soul

Carrie's Wednesday Post

Hi Folks, I wanted to share an older song with you today. It’s called The Speed of Soul and it was first recorded as a bonus track on my compilation album “Kindred Spirits”. Technology has been moving at such a blindingly accelerated pace…and some of these changes have been very positive and life-giving. But there have been other changes that have been not so good for us individually and for the world. So the song is an encouragement for us (individually and as a world community) to stop and consider the question “Just because we can do something, does that mean we should?”

A friend once told me, “human beings are so clever, but perhaps too clever.” This gave me pause. Our cleverness has created symphonies and poetry, pianos and sculpture. Before the technology of recorded music the only place a song existed was in the moment it was sung and carried in the heart of the listener. There are medical technologies that heal and help save lives every single day. And yet, technology has also created terrible weapons of war and technologies that are damaging the planet.

Technology is not necessarily all bad or all good. The choice we make is how we participate with change, how we consider what is good for us and good for the world. We can decide to step back from a culture of perpetual motion and reflect, to consider how to live with intention and care, and share heart to heart with one another…so that as we move forward we do so grounded in our most beautiful values, and ever mindful the well-being of all.

Here’s the song and the lyrics….
