I posted this somewhere else also "...my brother, with tolerance gone...in our darkest hour hope lingers on. I will not hate and I will not fear, in our darkest hour, hope lingers here...". From a song "Hope Lingers On" by Lissa Schneckenburger. I heard this recently and it is perfect for our time now. Thank you Carrie for raising hope again for us. ❣️🙏🏼
Even the question points to a truly organic experience.
Today i am reminded that hope is not a feeling- it is a choice. One that requires more grit and stubborn steadfastness on some days than others. It is something that if cultivated- will begin to live in the bones and provide strength when the mind may see reason to flag. Living hope is counter cultural- and is sustained through the unseen and through community.
I am grateful for Carrie- for posing the question and providing an opportunity for reflection and for this community who responds with such heart and respect for life, truth and each other.
I guess that hope sometimes involves some boot-strapping, and that a lack of experience doesn't really limit how high you can go.
Yet, even previous gold-medal-winning athletes benefit from the encouragement of teammates who give the supportive push and reminder "You can do this!"
Draw a deep breath, focus on the goal, (relax the muscles "in a supporting role").
Enjoy the purity of focus on limited details and allow the buzz of peripheral details to just become a fuzzy background.
Hope is hard to define for me. I guess it could be seen as a type of attitude that yearns and strives to bring into reality something better or something needed or wanted. This something can be personal or involve society. Some hope is self-serving, such as hoping to win the lottery. But the deepest hope involves growth, healing, creativity, and vulnerability. Hope can and has changed the world for the better, such as the hope of the suffragists to expand the rights of women.
This is the song of every woman in this country your words are so wise and so true we must do everything possible to keep a person like Donald Trump from becoming President again, We must do anything we can to help Kamala Harris triumph over this threat to our democracy she is our hope for greater freedom for all women and men too but women are the ones who's freedom is threatened the most. Send our prayers and whatever else we can to vice president Harris. I rest my case.
We cannot have lasting peace as long as we keep trying to exclude each other from sharing government power. Fortunately, Jesus gave us the answer.
Keep advocating for full equality of all, which needs the humility to equally share power via consensus/spiritual unity, which needs teaching how to love God and neighbor to inspire disciples.
So, joyfully voting for "All of the above" again for President to represent what we should all demand from our government, which is executive power at least shared proportionally to votes earned. Who really wants just one person controlling the entire executive branch and deciding about starting wars or launching nukes?
We amended the Constitution before, we can do it again to increase checks and balances on executive power. Too optimistic? Too hopeful?
Thank you for this, and for holding this space with us all. I believe that it was Valarie Kaur who said that hope is not a calculation of the mind, it is a choice of the heart. Like most of us, I imagine, I need to make that choice over and over.
Be kind, but be not afraid. Stepping out of our comfort zones is essential. When I start withering, I think of those who I work with, like the 3 Melissas, who constantly have to struggle to provide for their families and to survive. If they can, certainly I better ratchet up and do more. Here's a 5-min. video I produced featuring the 3 Melissas. https://youtu.be/jJ6G1k_vnEc?si=Dg-yPInyOLTlp-V4
Living hope comes through the small and big interactions rooted in compassion, kindness. Remembering we are not alone and turning to curiosity when things get tough.
Wow! Thanks so very much.
Thank you Carrie. Your music helps me through tough times.

There’s no way to be kind without courage and disappointment
