This is just what I needed to read. I've been a bit saturated with the "bad", and it has spoiled the hope I felt a few weeks ago. I don't want to lose that hope. And all my angst is based in fear of what could happen if humans choose hate.

What spoke to me even more than wanting to live in better accommodations was “fear is the cheapest room in the house.” Why do we choose the cheapest room in the house? Because we don’t believe in ourselves or believe that we’re worth more. I have chosen fear many times and usually there is something underlying it, such as doubt or loss or feeling irrelevant or invisible. We only want better accommodations for ourselves when we love ourselves, and once we love ourselves we don’t have to try to love others, we very naturally do it.

As I journey into new territories of spirituality and understandings of love, compassion, and connection, I have my sunshine and rainbow moments, to be sure. I also have many moments, days, even years of bewilderment, frustration, and loneliness. That is when I long for and cherish good and healthy communities the most. I need those who have gone before me to teach me, those who say, “me too”, and those I may be able to point to a foothold I found along the way. I am so grateful for this community, and so grateful to Carrie for gathering our spirits.

Thank you Jeff, As Ram Das said, “We are all just walking each other home”. Yes, some work is ours to do personally, work that no one can do for us. But I am grateful that there is help, companionship and communities of support. This is what makes the walking possible - less lonely, creative and way more interesting. As always your comments are so beautiful human and compassionate.

“We are all shining like the sun…”

Thank you for that and may every single person know that truth about themselves and each other — excluding no one!

Hafez is a favorite and re-reading this and then your commentary reminds me of the power of my fears-my negativity bias as the daily assault from misguided idealogues pounds around the door of my heart. I take courage with you and your wisdom Carrie-the pounding will not cease but the knob of the door is on the inside. We choose-to not live in the cheapest room of the house.

Lovely. I had a similar experience at a busy intersection on Farmington Avenue in Hartford, CT years ago. I was at a stop light in rush hour traffic; it was summer and neighborhood people were out walking. I had been at the light through one cycle already; it was very slow going. Suddenly I was in love with them all, and it all. It came over me and filled me, and was too big for me to hold and I began to weep from the enormity and beauty of it all. It receded and left me changed forever before the light turned green again. Peace, and as I say in my posts, "Courage my dears."

Oh Melina….I so love “Suddenly I was in love with them all, and it all.” Experiences of awe, wonder and deep connection have a habit of happening in simple moments and unexpected places - right there before the light turned green again. I hold such moments with infinite tenderness and gratitude. Thank you so much for posting today, it made me teary in the very best kind of way.
