Path Through The Evening Woods - Featuring a GWM Song each week!
For the next few weeks I’ll be featuring a song and writing a bit about it here at The Gathering of Spirits.
I’ll be continuing to release occasional lyric videos for individual songs on YouTube in the coming weeks. Here’s the link to my YouTube page. Today’s video I created myself using footage I took while walking in the woods with my dogs.
Its called “A Path Through The Evening Woods”. I love the really beautiful string parts created by Brittany Haas, Paul Kowert and Jordan Tice. And Siri Undlin added the most beautiful harmony vocal. It all felt pretty magical and everyone contributed the perfect compliment to the spirit of this song!
I had been in conversation with my friend Parker J. Palmer, who was accompanying his little sister during her great and tender transition from this mystery to the next. I went for a walk in the woods and this song emerged fully formed while I was walking. It was already there, I just needed to catch it like a feather floating down. So this is for Parker and his little sister Sharon. Here’s the YouTube Link
Practice
Go for a walk and bring along your smartphone if it has a camera. At some point stop and look at something close up, like I do in my one inch photos. Take a picture, appreciate what something looks like close up and in detail.
Question : What was it like to take your own one inch photo? Did you find you saw the object in more detail than if you glanced at it while walking by? give us a one sentence description of what you saw :-)
Fall Tour Schedule
I’ll be performing in Denver and Boulder CO this weekend! Check for details or get tix at www.carrienewcomer.com/tour
Thank you again, Carrie, for “A Path through the Evening Woods.” As you know, your song meant the world to my sister as she lay dying last winter. She not only listened to the file you sent us, but a member of her church choir came to her room at the nursing home and sang it for her. The song brought her great comfort—and when it was performed again at her memorial service, it brought great comfort to our whole family. As always, your creative generosity sheds a lot of light on the dark places in our world. Love and blessings from all the Palmers...
Congratulations on your new album.
