Carrie - that was the PERFECT thing to do (to respond in song!) I wish I could've witnessed that, and how wonderful it would have been for others to join in! Mixing voices, grinning from ear to ear, a moment of human solidity vs. annoyance. We need that.... thank you, Connie
Your sharing today brought tears to my eyes, Carrie. It reminds me how connected we are, how necessary we are to each other - if we allow ourselves to be present to all the love and beauty available to us in each moment, no matter where we are. Miracles happen every day, in every moment when we pay attention. Thank you so very much.
Reading this just now the day after the most recent mass shooting in Nashville. I am just 40 miles away facilitating a grief program for couples who have lost a child through violence-addiction-accident-health crisis.
It is days like this when I/we most need to remember that goodness is stronger than these damn shadows that are casted by individuals and our national narrative of rights without responsibility.
Today I will join my sweet couples and hold them as we close our program of Life After Loss at Onsite in Cumberland Furnace, TN. And I will remember this sweet story of goodness. And when I can touch the breath inside and remember that Love Wins.
Not waiting in a line, but when I went to take my garbage can down to the street this morning (?!?) I heard the most beautiful bird song coming from the side of my house - one I had not heard before! Then, a few seconds later, there was a response from far down the street. Call... and response. Call... and response. I was so excited, I ran back inside to sing the song to my husband (who is extremely patient when it comes to my excitement over the little things.) He loves the birds, too. It was such a beautiful moment!
We were in Canada in a very long line getting through international security and one of the employees sang instructions to everyone and it was wonderful!
Thank you, Carrie! In case you'll be up in the north-west of Ireland, may I suggest connecting with Candy Verney and Song House? I'll bet you'll hit it off....https://thesonghouseireland.com/
We were at a concert last week and were waiting in the concession line. We were having a conversation when the woman in front of us suddenly turned around and joined us, as she overheard us and it reminded her of something she wanted to share. I was glad and thanked her for joining us.
I got to be part of one. The chorale I belonged to was going to Europe to sing. We had a long layover in Denver. And we decided to sing in the waiting area. It was so fun. And I believe it cheered up some people, especially us. We loved singing no matter what.
I was with a group of reporters stuck on a boat in the Panama Canal waiting for then Vice President Mondale to give a press conference. Sitting next to me was an older newspaper man, a complete stranger. We introduced ourselves. He asked if Kathy (my name) was short for Kathleen or Kathryn. I said neither. He asked why, a strange question I thought. I explained that I was named for a little girl who had fallen in a well and was trapped for 3 days. National attention was riveted on efforts to rescue her by drilling a parallel shaft. She died before they got to her. This stranger sitting next me was a cub reporter for my hometown newspaper, The Indianapolis Star, and this was his first big story. He may have had a hand in my naming.
This was a highlight for me as I read the story this morning as the sun was rising brightly after days of dark clouds. I passed it to several friends as well as my musician son in Florida.

What a wonderful story Carrie!! I love waking up to these soul changing stories from you.
I would have loved to be sitting in that Starbucks listening to you both. What a lovely melody that would have been!
Great story. It has been a long time since I had an experience near as cool as that.
Thank you for a beautiful reminder of the goodness in this world.
your story of the baritone barista lifted my spirits today! I will keep my eyes open for that kind of possible encounter.

Thank you for sharing this experience. Experience are witness to peace and compassion is present we just need to be willing to be present.
That is SO beautiful. I love this. Thank you for sharing in the song even at O'Hare...
Where were you playing in Sioux Falls? My family and I lived there for nine years and it is a place dear to our hearts.
