Creativity moment folks!
This is a fun writing prompt exercise I’ve used in creative writing workshops. The purpose it have fun, to play with words and discover memories and details (tender, delightful, funny, powerful, poignant, small and large) that reveal something about who we are. Its patterned upon a beautiful poem called “Where I’m From” by George Ella Lyons. Please feel free to forward this to friends or family. Its fun to share what you come up with in this exercise at a gathering or in an email.
It celebrates our diverse histories, what makes us uniquely ourselves and what connects us.
What to do….
Start with a blank piece of paper or blank word doc if you are working on the computer. Alternatively you can just download the pdf on this post.
Write down the beginning of each numbered prompt line (I come from, And or From). Fill in the rest of the sentence. If you download the pdf you’ll just fill in the blanks.
When you have filled in all the prompts you can leave it as it is. Alternatively, you can copy it on a separate sheet of paper or word doc and make edits so it sounds a bit more like your own language. You don’t have to use all the prompts. You can just do a few if you like.
COMMENT
Please feel free to put your poem in our comment section. Its a fun writing prompt and its a great way to get to know one another better.
