Yesterday the sun when down over the ridge line like a pale pat of melting butter. Sometimes the world can be so unexpectedly fall-to-your-knees beautiful, it can take me by surprise, intense as a cold water on a tender tooth. Honestly it is a wonder that all my my jeans are not permanently mud stained at the mid point of each pant leg.

The poem below was inspired by watching that sunset and then written on the back of a scrap of paper I had in my coat pocket before the muse flew somewhere else….and then transcribed here.
