We are not called to do everything. But we are called by love to do something.
Encouragement to find your own way to support the No Kings Protests Today
Today is No Kings Day. I’ll be joining a wide coalition of activists in my home town to protest the deliberate attempts by the current administration to take down the rule of law and install a dictatorship of conscious cruelty and absolute power. Here is a LINK to find the nearest location of a No Kings Day protest near you.
I won’t list ALL the reasons why I am taking to the streets today, if you are paying attention to the news, you already know we have entered into new territory as the current administration nearly daily illegal acts of conscious cruelty and deliberate attempts to break down the pillars of democracy and the rule of law. Each day something I love and cherish is being attacked (education, libraries, science research, the arts, our beautiful planet, justice, free speech, true human rights, women’s dignity and worth, decency, integrity, honorable speech and action, true fiscal responsibility that works for the common good not just a greedy elite few.
If you are on the fence on whether to go, consider this….
This that point in history that people will later ask, “Why didn’t they do something to stop what was happening?”
This the point in history that children will later ask their parents and grandparents, “What did you do because you loved me and all who would come after me?
This is a day to ask yourself, “What is mine to do and how will I connect to a movement of love and positive change, raise my sense of my own power and agency, add to the love that will shift the balance toward something better?
If you can’t join a protest in person today - and not all of us will be able to go in person.
Consider sitting in silent prayer or meditation upon peaceful non-violent change for the common good and for the changing of the hearts of those in lock step with this cruel and brazenly undemocratic administration.
Consider making a small donation to a cause under attack or has been defunded.
Consider smiling at your neighbor, baking for an event, looking online for where you might volunteer for an organization you feel very drawn to.
Consider putting on Bruce Springsteen’s The Rising or my song “A Great Wild Mercy” and dancing around your kitchen in solidarity with those marching.
Consider getting in your garden and nurturing the earth
Consider calling your state representatives and let them know your opinion on an issue that you feel strongly about
Consider doing an art project on the topic of love and expanding love in the world
Consider sending love…all the love you can…into the world.
Consider putting a “Love is still the greatest power.” post of solidarity on social media.
Consider doing what you can to put a little more love a little more kindness a little more beauty into the world…and that will be your gift today….and it will matter. There is no gift too small, no act of resistance that doesn’t add to the great turning toward the light that is happening.
Question
Whether or not you can join an “in person” event doesn’t matter…what matters if the love and solidarity we share today.
Add to the comments and chat “ We are not alone, we are many and we are great with love - we are marching on the side of love.” (Or your version of the statement)
Gone are the days when I protested and was arrested in a huge pro-choice rally in Boston. Gone are the days when I could stand for hours at a rally here even, However there are 2000 people who will be gathering nearby as part of Syracuse #nokings and as I told them, I'm there in spirit and in truth
I’ve just come from the protest in my city, and it was a wonderful, peaceful experience. Over a third of the people there were aged 60 and over. I posted on my social media this morning asking everyone to protest peacefully, and (where available) included music from If Not Now. I hope all events today will be as peaceful as my experience.
