This month’s SongLab is a A Small Flashlight. For those of you new to Song Labs, I usually choose a requested song, or one that just feels appropriate for the moment. I talk about the topic of the song and how I hope it connects with you. Then for those who are guitar players, I do a short teaching session.

I’ve had several requests to talk about the partial capo technique I often use— how I started using this technique, how it works and maybe showing folks how I use it in the context of a song. A Small Flashlight uses a custom capo that I created for myself. In the video I describe how you can make one for yourself!

Oh…and I did something new for this song lab. I’ve included an audio file that you can use (and play along with) when learning the tablature. Its a little mechanical sounding, but it’s note by note what I’ve laid out in the tab!
