I remember a time that my wife and I were driving down to South Carolina and the GPS in my father in law's car didn't factor in traffic (this has been a while). We got off the interstate to just take a parallel state highway to avoid the backup. However, we couldn't figure out how to turn the dumb GPS off. So it kept trying to get us back on the interstate that was all jammed up. But we were just happily moving along on this side road with the GPS continuing to chime in "recalibrating...turn right...recalibrating...turn right...recalibrating...take a u-turn...". We laughed at this because we were wondering if the GPS would finally get to a point and ask, "why aren't you listening to me?!?!?"

I hear the GPS for me in a different way today. There is going to be a lot that is going to be saying to fall into line, go with the flow, accept what is coming (recalibrating...turn right...recalibrating...turn right...recalibrating...take a u-turn...) and not accept that the path that we are going to try to take is different, slower than we probably would like, but more beautiful and more interesting.

But not without direction."
