October Song Lab - Singing In The Dark

By Carrie Newcomer & John McCutcheon

Hi Folks,

In celebration of the release of A Great Wild Mercy, I’ll be featuring songs from that collection. This song is called “Singing In The Dark” and was co-written with my friend and master songwriter, John McCutcheon. John and I have been creating a collection of songs over that past couple of years and its been such an honor and amazing experience to explore songwriting and themes of the heart with him. There is an interesting story that accompanies this song, a visit to The Abbey of Gethsemani, the experience of being present for the singing of the hours at 3pm vigil.

As always, I’ve included the tablature and lyric sheet for the song.

I hope you enjoy!

Question: Sometimes the care we give is direct and personal. Sometimes the care we give is sent through our prayers and good intentions for a troubled world. What does the line “Singing in the dark” evoke in you?
