Hi Folks,

Welcome to our monthly Song Labs! This month’s song is “That’s The Way These Things Go” from the album The Point of Arrival. I’ve had a ton of requests for this particular song, so I’m happy to feature this song in December.

That’s The Way These Things Go” is a song about loss, the process of grief, letting go, and how on the other side of healing our hearts may have opened to a greater capacity for empathy and compassion for others…and ourselves. As always with our Song Labs I’ve attached lyrics, guitar tab for learning the song, and an audio file that you can play along with while working with the tablature.

Thank you to those of you who requested this tender song. I very much appreciated and enjoyed creating this Song Lab around the story and the song.

For many people the holiday season is one of gathering, good will and community - and yet, it can also be a tender reminder of those we love and miss at this time of year. We all carry our joys and our sorrows, our delights and losses. May we be tender to one another on our very human journey.

“So be kind to everyone that you meet,

No matter what you see on the street.

You don’t know what people live down deep.

That’s the way these things go.”
