I’ve been moving a bit fast the last few weeks working on a new recording. It is nice to take a breath and read a bit of poetry today. The piece below is from a new collection called Poetry of Presence II Edited by Phyllis Cole-Dai who has a substack community called The Raft.
The poem is about clearing a space, opening the heart, taking a breath which allows the soul to show up. In Quaker tradition the True Self (what some call the soul or spirit) is referred to as The Inner Light. We each have an inner light, which is connected to something wide and luminous. Our inner light/inner teacher is always there, and it can be trusted. I have appreciated that image and language. But in a world of noise and distraction, it can sometimes be hard to hear that deeper voice.
